Nanaimo Golf Links (Old Course)

1915-18 a large tract of land was bought for a golf course but was later abandoned because it proved too expensive to clear and develop

1920 - an enthusiastic group of Nanaimo golfers got together to establish the Nanaimo Golf Links Limited. This limited company was incorporated April 12, 1920. A.G. Meakin was engaged as an architect to develop the nine-hole golf course.

1920 to 1922 - a nine-hole golf course was constructed on 86 acres of leased land from the Western Fuel Company. The Dunsmuir Coal Company bought this company in 1928 and the land became known as the Canadian Collieries property.

1922 to 1962 - The Nanaimo Golf Club played on this nine-hole course located above Bowen Road (then called Comox Road) bordered by Wakesiah Avenue and Jingle Pot Road.

1923 - one and one-half acres was purchased on Wakesiah Avenue for a new clubhouse however construction wasn't started for many years. During this time the building currently known as the Quarterway Hotel served as the first clubhouse.
