Salt water fishing at its finest. Fish approximately 1 1/4 hours away from Nanaimo in the beautiful Alberni Inlet. The Whitehouse on Long Lake can set up a private charter fishing out of the Alberni Inlet to suite your needs. Fish for Sockeye, Coho, Spring Salmon or Ling Cod and other bottom species. Fishing locally can be extremely rewarding, whether you are fishing salt-water fish, or fishing at one of the many local fresh water lakes, rivers or streams. Rainbow, cutthroat, dolly varden, brown trout are the most common species. Steelhead and salmon in season. Fly fishing is very good all year round. Can fish in Long Lake, Divers Lake & Westwood Lake. Nanaimo offers the largest fleet of dive charter boats. Dive or snorkel with the seals at Snake Island, the spectacular walls of Snake Island or Orelbar Point. Visit the wolf eels at Brekwater Island or Neck Point. For Artificial reef divers, nothing compares to the man-made sites like the Saskatchewan, a 366-foot navy destroyer sunk in 1997, or the 441 foot Cape Breton sunk in 2001.
