On July 1st, 2004, I came to the Nanaimo to visit with my dear friends for the Canada Day Weekend. When they picked me up at the ferry we had just a quick stop at a place called …The Whitehouse on Long Lake Bed & Breakfast.

MezzanineThe moment I walked through the front door into the mezzanine I was welcomed by the sparkling sunlit waters of Long Lake as I gazed through the 18 ft. high windows of the Grand Room.

My reaction was WOW! (I have heard this from my guests repeatedly when arriving for check-in during the past 5 years. I call this the WOW! factor.)

After viewing the B&B suites, gardens and the private dock, I settled into an overstuffed comfortable chair on the Grand Room balcony. It felt so peaceful I was really overwhelmed by the nature & beauty. Had I arrived in heaven?

Listening to the sounds of excited children swinging on the Tarzan rope, guests swimming, kayaking and canoeing, set me to fantasizing: "What would it be like to live this lifestyle?" Little did I know that within 2 months this would  be my life and The Whitehouse on Long Lake Bed and Breakfast my home.

I have travelled extensively for work and pleasure, lived in New York/Paris for a fashion career and been involved in the restaurant business while living in the south of France. Never did it occur to me that I would discover my "Domestic Goddess" at this point of my life.

I now host people from all over the world, and love the opportunity of hosting local Islanders when they need a quick and easy getaway. I take great pride & pleasure in the Whitehouse, making every effort to show my guests the exceptional quality and friendly hospitality that Canadians are renowned for the world over.

The Whitehouse was built on Long Lake as an executive home in 1993, and converted into a Nanaimo Bed & Breakfast by its second owner. Having already attained elite status as one Vancouver Island's "must stay" B&B's, the changes we introduced were mostly cosmetic adding wood & slate floors, custom cabinetry, new beds and furnishings. Not much to add to a paradise location

 Going Green

The Whitehouse on Long Lake B and B enjoys the luxury of being situated on a pristine and natural spring-fed lake which is home to an abundance of wild life and vegetation. We are working to minimize our negative impact on the environment and “planet earth” and being as eco-friendly as we can.

  • We offer recycling of all plastics, paper and glass - they can be placed in the blue bins available in each suite.

  • Although Nanaimo has excellent drinking water, we provide filtered Britta water for each suite to help reduce the consumption of plastic bottled water.

  • Our menus have been converted to a re-usable format for our guests.

  • As a luxury Bed & Breakfast, we offer our guests the choice of a change of towels daily. We use only bio-friendly laundry products.

  • Solar lighting for our dock and garden allows our guests to enjoy these amenities late into the evening.

  • Wherever feasible, we reduce our consumption and encourage our guests to be conscientious consumers.
